ACTIONS: astringent, dissolves and inhibits discharges, circulatory and chi stimulant, diaphoretic, emetic in large doses, expectorant, febrifuge, bactericidal, antispasmodic, powerful anti-Kapha medicine, cleanses lymphatics, mobilises body defences in early stage of infection
INDICATIONS: diarrhea, dysentery, colitis, colds and sore throats, fevers, gingivitis, leucorrhea, uterine hemorrhage, jaundice, indolent ulcers
PRECAUTIONS: high Pita, hyperacidity, hypertension
CONSTITUENTS: volatile oil (MYRICADIOL,{which is reported to have mineralocorticoid activity} taraxerol, taraxerone), an alkaloid called MYRICITIN, tannic and gallic acids, MYRICIC wax, an acrid and astringent resin (MYRICINIC ACID), starch, gum, sucrose
PREPARATION AND USE:
-put 1 tsp in 1 cup water, bring to boil and simmer 10-15 min.
-1-3 ml tincture
-as a gargle for sore throats, gingivitis
-as a douche for leucorrhea
-in poultices with slippery elm for skin ulcers or slow-healing wounds
-in a tooth powder with cinnamon, myrrh, salt, and echinacea root
-can be used as a snuff for nasal congestion
