PRECAUTIONS: one author suggests that prolonged use of large amounts might cause heart damage, especially if the flowers are old
CONSTITUENTS: volatile oil up to about 0.1% containing farnesol; tannins; linarin; a glycoside called TILIACINE; phytosterols; quercitin and other bioflavonoids; resinic acids; phenolic acids such as chlorogenic and caffeic; mucilage
PREPARATION AND USE:
-standard infusion, taken warm, 1 cup three times daily
-tincture 10-20 drops, three times daily
-use infusion as a wash for burns, boils, etc
USE IN MAGIC: Protection, Immortality, Luck, Love, Sleep
- grown in a garden or boughs hung over door for protection
- leaves and flowers used in love spells
- bark is carried to prevent intoxication
- spells for immortality
- good luck charms may be carved from the wood
- mixed in equal parts with lavender for sleep and dream pillows
